I needed a an inexpensive vacuum. I am adding space to my house, and my central vac is disabled until the project is further down the road. I paid $140 for this vacuum @ Home Depot. It came with an additional hard floor cleaning tool, and an extra hose/wand to extend the reach.

Assembly is simple. All the attachments you could possibly need, as well as wands, are stored on board. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet this unit is. Not having to bend over to turn off the brush roller for hard floors is another great extra - there is a foot switch!

Another nice touch is the automatic cord rewind - press a button and the power cord winds right into the machine. A nice and somewhat rare feature on upright vacuum cleaners.

The brush roll stops automatically when you put the vac in the locked upright position (to turn if off or use the hose/attachments). It starts automatically when you depress the foot petal to go to one of the THREE positions for regular vacuuming. One of these positions is nearly flat - good for vacuuming under things.

The head of this unit fits nicely under my kitchen and bathroom cabinet overhangs - so no need to put attachments on to clean the floor under cabinet edges.

The hose is easy to handle, and the vacuum is stable (vs. being easy to pull over) when using the hose/attachments.

The most amazing thing to me is how much dirt this vacuum picked up out of my carpet. On Friday night, I vacuumed my house two complete times with a brand new, high-end upright (Miele S184 Powerhouse). There were some issues, and I returned it Saturday morning. Sunday, I bought this vacuum, and ran it over all my floors one cursory time. I assumed there couldn’t be much dirt left, given the thorough job I did only 1 1/2 days earlier.

I could not have been more off-base. There was not only a lot of fuzz/lint that the other vacuum had missed, but there was a good bit of the very fine powdery dust that is sometimes embedded deep in carpets! This machine did a great job and really surprised me.

There were some lint stuck in the little holes that make up part of the dust cup. I just an old tooth brush and flicked them out, no worries. Ideally, this wouldn’t happen, BUT, for what came out of my carpet, I’ll gladly spend a minute or two to clean the machine after vacuuming.

My hat is off to Hoover on this one - great product!
