Frigidaire FLEB8200DS Top Load Stacked Washer / Dryer

I never thought I would have the need for such a machine as this one that is a combination top load washer with a dryer stacked above it. As it is I did have a need as did the rest of my family on a one week vacation. We had an apartment type accommodation and in the bathroom was this stacked washer and dryer combination. We used it that week and we used it hard.

Some Basics

Specific specs of this machine can be found by clicking the View Details tab. The reason that it was in our place is because of limited space. This has a footprint of just 27″ X 31″ and a height of about 76″. The machine fit neatly into a confined area and though only taking smaller loads than our home machine, performed admirably under harsh conditions. My daughter who goes to school in Maine and where we were on vacation was going to leave us midweek and go to her school. She did but not before bringing all her summer and winter clothes and washing them during every free moment she had. During my college girls down time of using the washer and dryer my wife and my other daughter kept their clothes clean and fresh too. Yes, ol’ pops also did a couple of loads in the machines.

I like that the controls are all eye height and easy to use. The dryer settings were on the left. No big deal but I happen to like things set up in order. If I wash the clothes first, I would like the washer controls first, on the left. Like I said, No biggy really. The machine has convenient bleach and fabric softener compartments to fill prewash.

The washer has three load settings of Regular, Permanent Press and Knits/Delicate. The three water temperature controls gives options for particular materials being washed and soap used. They were activated by a simple turn of the knob.

The dryer also had a few settings. One was no heat at all for fluff tumbling. It also offered a timed heat cycle of up to 100 minutes and yet another with a cool down setting that dried with heat and then cooled down to help keep clothes wrinkle free. This worked pretty well but I had to use the Less Dry feature for best results.

More Of Pops Experience

As mentioned my gals kept this combo machine busy all week. That included everything, sheets, towels and clothes. I can’t forget our table cloth and much more too.

The machine easily took a pair of my denim jeans, three or four t-shirts, a couple of pairs of walking shorts and a bathing suit. The top load area between the washer top and the dryer left but about 17″ to lift clothes and offered little head room when reaching in and taking the clothes out. I highly recommend closing the dryer door when reaching into the washer. Problem though. I wanted to lift the wet clean clothes directly from the washer and put them in the dryer. I picked up a couple of bumps on my head for my efforts.

The machine was relatively quiet when in action. We were watching the Olympics each night before retiring. That’s when the wash was getting done too. The machines were quiet enough but, the washing machine easily went off balance. My daughter had to redistribute the weight of the clothes a couple-a-few times. I think it’s the machines limited capacity being put to the test that caused the off-balance problem.

I was happy enough with the outcome of my wash. All was clean including a tough spot or two on my shirts. (Somebody get this big dude a huge bib).

Most of my washing was on the regular cycle. My wife used the delicate cycle for some of her things. She was pleased with the way all came out.

The dryer was surprisingly quick in doing its job. A nifty little buzzer called me when it was done. I usually can’t hear buzzers and such, but this one I could. That’s especially good if far from the laundry room.

Last Thoughts

I liked the fact that this compact machine duo could clean and dry my clothes well. I was surprised at the capacity of the tubs and so much more fit in than I thought would/should. The one thing I didn’t like was the limited space between washer top and dryer. If I were to have to purchase such a machine I would strongly consider a front load washer with the stacked dryer.

I didn’t like that the machine had an off balance swing to it a few times. That said, it never went completely off balance to a point of stopping.

All in all my family was quite happy with the results this duo washer dryer gave us.
