I had a Bissell steam vac. I never really liked it, it always seem weird, and never worked right. It finally died after 2 years.
I got the Hoover since it had nice reviews and it WASN’T a Bissell.
It did a good job, it was easy to clean, and was lighter than they other one.
I did find it used too much cleaner. The solution there is to mix 50/50 water/cleaner. I heard from a carpet cleaning guy once that you should just put the cleaner in a spray bottle, wet the carpet and spray it in. You never want to use too much cleaner, it can cause more problems than solve!
The brushes come off easy for cleaning as does the area where water is sucked up. No tools are required.
The controls for turning on the brushes are clearly marked and easy to use. Also the controls for wash versus rinse are easy to access on the handle. This is an easy design to work with.
I use it to clean my traffic areas and the occasional pet or child accident. It works like magic. The water it sucks up is almost black. After a few passes, the water lightens up considerably. I should go over it about a dozen times until the water is clear, but I guess I’m lazy there.
This is a great cleaner for smaller areas or 1 room, but I think it would take all day to do a whole house. There would be too many trips back and forth to the sink to empty and fill. I think I would still hire someone to do the whole house now and then.
