Bissell Upright Vacuum - The Pet Hair Eraser 1 ea Vacuum

Having two yellow labs in our house gives us more than our fair share of dog hair. It’s in the couch, on the stairs, in the rug, under the tables….just everywhere. Prior to buying this vacuum, we had a basic Oreck that seemed to do the job fairly well, but it was getting old and it wasn’t as powerful as this model.

We purchased the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser at Lowe’s for $149.99, after being convinced by the salesperson that it would indeed do the trick for all the pet hair in the house.

Assembling the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser was a snap. It required only two screws and attaching the components…within 4 minutes of opening the box, it was plugged into the wall and erasing the hair.

The vacuum itself is somewhat beefy and heavy. It feels sluggish to push and pull, specifically, on a thick carpet. This sluggish feeling can be compensated for by adjusting the agitator height on the front of the vacuum, but even by doing so, it still feels heavy. There are six height settings, ranging from “high carpet” to “hard surface” and a simple turn on the dial will allow you to adjust the agitator for the correct setting.

All of the attachments are conveniently stored on-board, which I supposed could be a contributing factor to the overall weight. Attachments include an extended long-nose nozzel, a soft brush and a min-agitator. Each of the attachments slide onto the hose with ease and fit snuggly, as they should.

Obviously this is a bagless vacuum as it has a “whirlwind” container, as most of the models do today. Emptying the container is extremely easy. With the push of a single button, the container pops off the body of the vacuum and remains shut. Once you have the container in a spot where you want to empty it, preferrably over a garbage can or whatever, another simple flip of a button will pop the bottom open and the debris/dirt/hair will simply fall out. Re-attaching the container to the vacuum body is also extremely easy.

The vacuum has a number of built-in, replaceable filters, which cuts down on harmful emissions and odor. The filters are easily accessible and easy to clean as well.

Aside from the sluggish weight, the only complaint I have is in regards to the hose. The hose is fairly short and does not expand very far. Fully stretched, the hose is somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 feet or so. While this may sound far enough, I have found that it is difficult to clean the stairs with such a short hose. You’ll find yourself moving the vacuum from the bottom of the stairs to the top, or vice versa, as you clean.

Overall, I am very impressed with this vacuum. It has significant sucking strength and manges to pick up 99% of the dog hair in our house. Occassionally, a hair will get woven into the fabric of a couch or whatever, and the vacuum does not have the strength to pull it out, however, I doubt most vacuums do.
