We received this vacuum as a gift from my dad. The most impressive feature was the bagless technology. I didn’t ever think I’d cough up the big bucks for this new era of vacuums - thank goodness for daddy. We really enjoyed this vacuum and how clean things felt that we eventually upgraded for an even more clean and pure Dyson but we keep this Hoover on hand as a secondary or outside vacuum.
So, let’s review top to bottom. The handle is comfortable and there’s a nice, big, chunky on/off switch that you can’t miss and it’s easily operated with your thumb. The kick-back lever is conveniently located on the left side and is not obscured in any way so it can be easily manipulated with your foot.
I love that the attachment tools are on board but not in the way. Below the on/off switch and on top of the dirt chamber is a compartment enclosed by a clear plastic door that holds the brush, the rectangular sucker, and the mini-vac wheeled head with rotating brush. The clear plastic door is easily opened but never ever fell open on its own. The three attachments store easily and obviously inside without confusion or head-scratching as to which way they go.
On the right side of the vacuum are the three wand pieces that can all hook together or be used separately to provide as much extension as you need. The stretchy hose is also there. When the hose is docked for storage the vacuum operates normally. When the hose is undocked it is ready to be used as an attachment without plugging into any special hole or anything. This is a very great feature too!
The dirt chamber has a locking lever that slides left to right to release or store the chamber. It is a two compartment chamber. One side traps most of the dirt and is easily emptied by turning it upside down. The other side has a pleated cartridge type filter. These filters are expensive to replace but we got tons of life out of it by blowing it off with an air compressor after every few vacuums. Along the left side is a HEPA filter compartment. When we finally decided to replace this filter we did have a hard time finding the right size. The one that seemed right at Wal-Mart was not and I wound up going to a vacuum store to get the right one. This filter is not cheap either but can be washed out a bit like a sponge for a few times before replacement.
There are five height adjustments ranging from hard floor to carpet. I usually just left it in the middle as I have average carpet.
We always felt like our carpets were getting much cleaner with this system than they did with our previous bagged vacuum. It is a somewhat heavy unit but was never too difficult to push or operate. It’s not the quietest vacuum I’ve ever seen but with 12 amps it’s going to generate some power and make some noise. Anything quieter would likely not clean as well because I’ve learned that less noise means less power.
