My first introduction to the Rainbow Vacuum was back in about 1975. My mom agreed to a home demonstration. For a child of the depression to be sold on a $1000 vacuum, it has to be good! 33 years later, it’s still going strong. I tried to get her to purchase a new one so I could have her “old” one. She just laughed & laughed! Good luck! She said she’d leave it to me in her will, but, if my sister wants it, since she’s the oldest daughter, she will probably get it!

I developed major allergies after I moved to Northern California. The skin test I took showed that if it has pollen, I’m allergic to it. So, time to get one of my own. About 8 years ago I bought a reconditioned Rainbow from the local vacuum store. It’s held up pretty well. What I did discover is they don’t like having their cords chewed up by the dog. I’m sure I could take it in & have it repaired, but the newer ones look so inviting. I’ll probably buy another reconditioned one. It will have belonged to one of those people that think they don’t work! ha ha ha One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

I won’t go into the long description of what the vacuum looks like & what it comes with, I just want to say that if you want a vacuum that works, this is the one. If you use just the hose (not the motorized head) it will clean up ANYTHING!! Kids spilled a full soda on the new carpet?? New puppy didn’t make it to the door?? Grandkids had a water fight in the living room?? How about that food fight last week?? Let me see your average $100 vacuum get that cleaned up!

Mix some Simple Green in water, pour it on carpet stains, then suck the stain right out! There’s nothing you can’t clean with this machine.

I don’t go for the foofy nice smelling stuff you can add to the water to make the house smell good. What I want to smell is NOTHING! When you vacuum with a Rainbow, that’s just what you smell ~ NOTHING!!

If you have animals, you will get the added bonus of having the vacuum make a sweater out of the hair it picks up!! At least that’s the joke my kids tell ~ Look mom, I knitted you a sweater. Strange kids, I know.

I read someone’s review of how much work it is to clean the little basket thing that keeps the water out of the motor. Picture this, you have to bend over, unlatch the vacuum from the water container, unscrew 1 bolt, take this metal thing that looks like a basket to the sink, scrub it with some dishsoap & a toothbrush. That’s it.
Now picture this, I have one of those cheap “bagless” vacuums that my hunny thought would be easier to use. I have to take the “dirt receptical” outside to the big garbage can, figure out what direction the wind is blowing, stand up wind, dump the dirt & dodge the big “puff” of silt coming up from the can. Now I have to take the filter out of the vacuum, make sure I’m still standing up wind, & start whacking it on the side of the garbage can to dislodge all that silt I didn’t want to be breathing inside of my house. Or I can bring the stupid thing to the garage & get out the air compressor and, again, standing up wind, blow the silt out of the filter.

Now doesn’t that just sound like fun?!? Don’t forget to factor in the time to get in a quick shower to clean up!
