We upgraded to our GE Refrigerator when we moved and have found it to be a solid, consumer-friendly, and attractive appliance for its price.

With not a lot of kitchen space to spare in our condo, we needed a fridge that would perform well and make the best use of the space inside of it. At 18 sq. ft. of space, our GE does just that. In the door, it offers a butter shelf, gallon jug storage area, and 2 shelves that offer plenty of room for condiment, pop cans, or other smaller items. This has proved very helpful in keeping both small jars and big jugs off of my food shelves and readily available in the door. The main area of the fridge has 2 sealed crisper drawers, a ’snack’ drawer, and 2 very easily removeable shelves that are quick to reposition so you can adjust for larger items as needed. Rather than the cheap plastic or wire that many shelves in smaller refrigerators are made of, the GE’s shelves are primarily glass with a plastic lip that runs around three sides making which means spills stay contained, they’re easy to clean, don’t stain, and don’t discolor over time.

The freezer area, which is on top in this model, makes similar use of storage space although I do find myself wishing it was larger overall. The ice maker is great, but unremarkable as I’ve never personally found anything amazing in an ice maker. My husband, however, has been amazed that it has never once jammed. So I suppose if you’re one who’s had trouble with jamming ice makers, this should help you out.

Other features include a ‘never-clean’ condenser with encased coils that, true to their name, don’t need cleaned. The unit claims to be extra quiet, but I find it to be about on-par with a standard refrigerator. It’s by no means loud, but doesn’t strike me as paticularly silent either. The stainless steel and black exterior is attractive in styling, can open either direction, and claims to spot less than average stainless steel. It does seem to spot less and require less cleaning than my stove or microwave which I’m happy about. It seems to be more energy efficient than my older unit, running less often and keeping food suitably cold. I have to give it heaps of praise for its insulation performance during a recent massive power outage. Without being opened for 2.5 days and obviously without running, it remained reasonably cold in the fridge area and our frozen foods were still 90% frozen. We lost substantially less food over our 3 days without power than many of our neighbors.

Overall I am pleased with this model which performs well and is a good option for a smaller kitchen area needing an attractive and functional appliance.
