I love my Fisher and Paykel washing machine, but then I’m probably biased as it’s the type I grew up with (being that I’m from NZ originally). I love the fact that it is so energy and water efficient!
We use cloth diapers, and the time had long come for our old washer. I kept waiting for it to actually finally really die so I could get a new one - eventually I said to my husband “it has to go!” And thus began the search for a new washer. We looked high and we looked low and in the end we couldn’t go past the F&P. It seems to offer so much more for the price than all the other even more expensive ones (over $1000). Now doing laundry is a pleasure (well as much as it could be).
My only strange complaint about this was that it was too quiet. Our laundry room is right next to my daughter’s bedroom and when she was a baby the house-shaking noise of our old washer used to sometimes help her sleep - the F&P is way too quiet for that!
This model differs from many others on the market in that it has a computerized interface. You need to push buttons to start the machine - but really it couldn’t be easier. First choose the wash cycle you want and then change any options you might want (want hotter/colder water? A slower spin speed? A shorter wash? It’s all right at your fingertips!)
It does have and end-of-cycle noise - but here’s my favorite part - you can turn it off! As mentioned earlier the machine was right next to my daughter’s room, and the last thing I needed were annoying beeps while she was sleeping!
You can also set it to delay the start time. I’m not sure why you’d want to do this, but you can. I think it’s most useful if you have off peak energy charges (ie you pay less for energy used in the middle of the night) but I haven’t heard of this here.
I loved this washer from the day we got it. It spins SO much more water out of the clothes that some of them feel dry when you get them out. This of course saves on drying time - another environmentally friendly feature.
It is an energy star appliance which I love, and very easy on water. It starts the wash by running just a little water through the washing liquid, and spraying that on the clothes while they agitate. It runs that concentrated water/detergent over a few times before filling to the (automatically sensed) level. The default rinse is also a spray rinse rather than a deep rinse.
Some other reviewers have mentioned having problems with parts or repairs, but we’ve had this machine for over 2 years now and have yet to have any problems. And we do a lot of laundry. Did I mention the cloth diapers? I’ve also started to use a laundry detergent I make myself, and the washer has not had any problems with that.
We bought this machine from a Sears Outlet store, which I’d highly recommend. It had one little scratch on the outside but apart from that was in perfect condition. And it was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper!
