We just took delivery of this unit 2 weeks ago. While I usually prefer to wait until I thoroughly know a product to review it, I believe my I’ve learned enough already to make a useful review. I will probably update this review later for refinements.
Automatic Ice Maker/ Water dispenser:
We’ve used the ice maker, water dispenser, and ice cube maker with consistent success. Similar LG refrigerators have been criticized for not having enough room to fit a pitcher into the dispenser for filling, and this is indeed true. With a pitcher in place, it won’t touch the button, and it’s too crowded to reach in with your other hand and push the button manually. For any smaller container this feature works elegantly.
Refrigerator:
The french doors open with ease and seal positively. Unfortunately, as is the case with most (all?) french door units, the doors do not self-close. So my old habit of walking away with a gentle push is not enough to close the door. No matter, the door is not heavy and I just need to develop a better habit. The shelving inside is working well, we have plenty of food and not much wasted space. The crisper drawers work but they are *very* noisy. I’m thinking some vegetable oil or mineral oil might help reduce the squeaking of the plastic sliders. The door shelving is deep and spacious. One niggle - there is nowhere I’ve found as yet that can hold a tall bottle. So to store wine bottles I suppose I need to shop for a positively leak-proof stopper. 2-liter soda bottles will likewise need to live laying down.
Freezer:
The freezer has worked nicely for us. The lower drawers are spacious but sized such that you can find anything without a fingertip-numbing dig through items. The upper drawer is ideal for frequently used items. Judging by the firmness of the ice cream that’s stored in ours, the temperature is very well regulated. In fact there is a digital temperature display on the front of the unit.
Appearance:
We purchased the “titanium” finish model, which is not actual titanium but a titanium epoxy painted surface. With this you get nearly the look of stainless without the cost and difficulty in cleaning.
