First off, the rack system is not effective. When I put plates in the bottom rack, and push the rack in, all the plates tumble into a big pile in the middle.

Once upon a time, Maytag was known for superior quality, and an ability to just keep going and going and going. There are Maytag washing machines that are thirty years old, and still going.
This dishwasher shows just how far the mighty have fallen.
Of course, Maytag isn’t alone. Build quality on appliances has really fallen with most companies.
This dishwasher seems to be discontinued, but I’m reviewing it because there are still models in production that appear to be similar. Then, of course, it’s possible to encounter this particular Maytag as a used appliance.

Having recently purchased my first home, with a non-working 20 year old dishwasher, I was overwhelmed by all of the dishwasher choices. I was leaning towards Bosch because of the excellent service it has provided my friends over the years. They had started with a Kenmore that was a nightmare, and finally tried the Bosch based on advice from the repairman. (Good advice there, ask a repair person which appliance they have to service the least.)

I bought the General Electric GSD1000G Built-in Dishwasher when I ordered my stove and refrigerator. I believe it came out to $299.00 for the dishwasher. The dishwasher came from Home Depot,it was part of a package deal as we bought six large appliances in one day.
The dishwasher is approximately 25 3/4 inches by 24 inches wide. The dishwasher fits nicely and is attractive, and has a trimless door. The General Electric GSD1000G has classic panels for that built-in look.

We rented a house during the summer of 2008 while we started a complete renovation of our house. Our rental house recently underwent a kitchen renovation and had 2 of these F & P upper drawer units installed on either side of the sink, less than 2 years ago. They were the fully-integrated model.
The units looked great, were easy to start, and cleaned glassware, flatware, and dishes reasonably well.
However the capacity was terrible, and they were hard to load as the racks are designed very poorly. We have 2 young boys, and would usually have to run 3 cycles per day, and this is without loading items like pots and colanders (many of which wouldn’t fit anyway– see below).
