After setting up our first home with my new husband, I had to learn how to cook on a gas range for the first time. At first I thought my issues were “operator error” but as time went by and more used my range I found out that it cooked unevenly at best and was erratic with temperature control.

We ordered our new Hotpoint Electric Kitchen Range and had it delivered with our new refrigerator. We got this range on sale for $399.00. The range came from Home Depot. The approximate dimensions are 46 1/2 inches high, by 26 3/8 inches deep, by 29 7/8 wide.

I can’t really complain too much for the price of this appliance. The stove features a self-cleaning oven without the need for scrubbing. I find I still have to clean the door and the glass. I use a small amount of oven cleaner on the glass and it does clean easy. There is a convenient window for viewing food that is baking. The window is 15 inches wide and 6 inches long.

Beware! Safety hazard!!!

I bought this range in September 2006. The double oven appealed to me and it’s the only good feature about this piece of junk.

Maytag doesn’t have any customer service to back the defective unit they produced. They rely on the repairman to say if it should be replaced and the repairmen say it isn’t their job to say that and they refuse.

The drip pans can’t be cleaned without brillo pads. The paint on them chips extremely easily.

Personally, I like gas appliances. While savings are really not an issue these days, they just seem to take a beating and present few service issues, in my experience.

From time to time we come upon a property that needs a gas stove replaced and depending on the space we have to work in, I like the space savings a cook top and built in oven offer. Recently we outfitted a unit with the General Electric JGRS06BEJ Oven which proved to be one of the better appliance finds we have made to date on account of a quantity discount we took advantage of from a retailer that was moving operations to another location.

This range was recommended by a friend-of-a-friend, cut I couldn’t find any reviews here, so I went looking at other sites, and after much research, decided that Jane was right (and that I should post my own opinion on epinions).

The range has everything I wanted - takes a full cookie sheet, preheating is very fast, and the convection is unbelievable. It’s cut my cooking time by about 20%! Brings 2-3 quarts of water to a full boil in under 8 minutes, and the convection part is FAR more powerful than my old range, so I actually have to watch out for overcooking (still getting used to the speed here).

NOTE My review is actually for the JES9750BAS. The only difference is that it has a brushed stainless finish instead of black. Otherwise the features are exactly identical. Also, even though Epinions has this listed as a Maytag, it is actually a Jenn-Air. (I know! Maytag, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Whirlpool…they’re all made by the same people.)

If you’re like me & frequently cook meals for your family & enjoy hosting large dinner parties — but lack the budget or inclination for buying one of those complicated & expensive gourmet ranges, you’ll be happy with your GE HotPoint. Especially if you have a small kitchen.

It’s simple to use & easy to clean. The stove has two standard burners for normal cooking, a simmer burner (for sauces & keeping soup warm), & a high-heat burner for pan-searing & other procedures requiring high heat. The flames are easy to adjust from low to medium to high. When purchasing a HotPoint, make sure you get the slightly higher-priced model with the simmer & high-heat burners.
