I purchased this unit last week to put in my small workshop. It’s 8′ x 16′ with foam insulated walls. It cools the area down to a manageable temperature. Being in a wood workshop (sawdust and all)I have to regularly manually remove built up dust particles out the front coils and when I removed the cover (only 2 screws) I was shocked and awed by the degree of shoddy manufacture I found within the unit. There were holes along both sides (top to bottom) between the outer case and inside unit that I could place a spiral bound notebook in as use it as a bookcase. Between the front coil mounting and the capacitor cover/housing there was another elongated hole where I could also place another notebook in if it weren’t for the copper tubing that runs to the front coils. Through these three areas I could see right out the back of the unit….not to mention I could also feel the heat coming in though these opening thus raising the interior temperature making the unit work harder to keep the area cool.
If anyone buying this unit doesn’t have the mechanical skills needed to remove the cover and “plug” these holes as I did with foam. I suggest buying a diff brand air conditioning unit.
Spend a few bucks more to get a reputable brand. When my new unit arrived the remote control was not packaged in any style of shock absorbing material/packing and barely worked because the front cover/circuit board had separated from the flimsy plastic housing. It worked 3 days and I had to order a universal remote to replace the now non-working remote. Without a remote you can not adjust any features as temperature or fan speed. The only manual adjustment is off/on.
