I am impressed with the Black & Decker CHV1500 Bagless Handheld Cyclonic Vacuum. I have to admit the Dust Buster series has greatly improved over the years.
This is a hand held vacuum cleaner that is portable. It works on a 15.6 volt battery that remains plugged in at a “home” station until ready to use.
Good Power. Attachments Work Well Too!
The vacuum has good power and the “Cyclonic” feature moved the air inside the dust collector in circles rather than straight toward the motor with the hard plastic filter in between. There’s a diverter built into the front inside area of the nozzle. It helps spin the air flow and keep dust and dirt from coming out. I am impressed with the suction and movement of air. The vacuum picks up small brads along with lint on pieces of carpet. That said, I don’t know how well it would do with animal hair. It is quiet enough so it shouldn’t upset Fido or Catnip.
The vac comes with two tools, an upholstery tool and a crevice tool. They both store in the back of the vacuum so they are always handy. The tools are set in well and don’t fall out. It’s a clever system. The tools themselves are very small attachments but work well enough. They attach to the small front opening of the B&D Dustbuster CHV1500 by friction. They com apart easily too.
Mounted Home Station Charger
The home station gets mounted on a wall and it has about five feet of cord that goes to an outlet. It plugs into any regular 110/120 volt outlet.
The vac doesn’t always set into its station easily. Sometimes it takes a try or two or three. It does always go back in but sometimes I have that problem when I use this at work. I have used this vacuum time and time again direct from the charging station. I don’t usually have to use it for a long period of time. Perhaps ten minutes time was the most I used it straight. The battery held a charge that full time. I’ve never had the battery fail me yet.
Easy Open, Easy Clean
This is a bagless vacuum. A press of a button on the top front and a pull of the front end pulls the vacuum apart for easy dumping of the trash built up in the vac. Inside there’s a filter. It can be cleaned easily with a slight twist and a rinse under water. It should dry completely before using again. It takes very little time to dry, perhaps a minute or two. Behind the outside filter is another that is easily cleaned too. This is an all dusty project like the old Dustbusters. They are relatively clean and the maintenance is easy to keep up.
Easy on The Hands
This unit is 17 1/2″ long. It’s bigger and a bit heavier than the original Dustbuster series but the curved ergonomic shaped handle keeps down any hand fatigue. It’s also well balanced with the nozzle’s opening at the proper place when handled. The On/Off switch is reached by thumb tip and is easy to use.
We use this at work for quick light clean-ups. It picks up glass particles with ease and is good for small areas like steps and corners where larger vacuums are restricted.
Comparisons
The Black and Decker CHV1500 seems to have been replaced recently by the Black and Decker CHV1560. That’s the newest one I see at my local Home Depot. I did not feel the suction power of the newer Home Depot model. I can tell you it looks like the same vacuum and as far as I can tell they are very much the same vacuum except for the Dustbuster CHV1560 not having the HEPA filtration that the CHV1500 has and is noted to remove 99.97% of particles.
In looking at the specs side by side I read CHV1500
*Cyclonic action filter system means more power longer because dirt won’t stick to the filter
*15.6 volt motor provides power for all cleaning jobs
*HEPA filtration removes 99.97% of particles such as dust mites and ragweed pollen from the air flow
*Quick slide charging system provides ultimate convenience of use
*Power lasts longer with 50% more filter surface
vs the newer CHV1560
*Cyclonic action filter system means more power longer because dirt won’t stick to the filter
*15.6 volt motor provides power for all cleaning jobs
*Quick slide charging system provides ultimate convenience of use
*Power lasts longer with 50% more filter surface
*3 stage filtration provides clean air exhaust
Both vacuums are on the market and very available through many web site shops.
In my looking at both side by side I really don’t see any measurable difference between the two and would suggest making the choice of the two by way of purchasing by price. For those with allergies I suppose the CHV1500 with the HEPA feature would be best but the replacement filters are more than I am willing to pay for at over $8.00.
pops Last Thoughts
I like the newer models of the Black and Decker Dustbuster series. They are far superior to the originals. The vac has good power and is easy to clean out. The Cyclonic feature keeps more dirt in too. I recall dirt falling out the front of the old models. These new models keep the dirt in. Of course these are $50 and more as compared to $20-$30 years past.
The vacuum has good suction and works in confined areas well. I am satisfied that this Dustbuster CHV 1500 holds its charge long enough for the small quick jobs this handy vac is used for.
